Editorial Policy
Our mission
Caffeine Math provides free, evidence-based tools and information to help people understand their caffeine intake, stay within safe limits, and make informed decisions about their health. Every piece of content is held to the highest editorial standards.
How we research content
All caffeine values, safe limits, and health claims are sourced from authoritative, peer-reviewed sources, including:
- U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) — safe daily caffeine limits (400 mg/day for healthy adults)
- USDA FoodData Central — caffeine content of foods and beverages
- European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) — caffeine safety research
- American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) — pregnancy caffeine guidance
- American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) — caffeine guidance for children and adolescents
- Peer-reviewed research — studies published in journals indexed by PubMed
We link directly to the original source wherever possible. See our data sources page for a complete list.
How we write content
Content is written by writers with domain expertise in nutrition, health, or pharmacology. Every article follows a structured format:
- A clear question or problem statement
- Evidence-based answer with citations
- Practical, actionable advice
- A "Sources" section listing all references
We never publish content we cannot source. If a claim cannot be verified, we mark it as TODO and do not publish it until verified.
Medical review process
All health-related content — including guides on caffeine and pregnancy, anxiety, athletic performance, and sleep — is reviewed by a qualified medical reviewer before publication. The reviewer's name and credentials appear on every medically reviewed page.
Update and review schedule
Content is reviewed on the following schedule:
- Tool pages — reviewed when source data changes or at least every 6 months
- Health guides — medically reviewed at least every 12 months
- Caffeine database — updated within 30 days when a brand reformulates
- Legal pages — reviewed annually
Each page displays a "Last updated" date. If you find outdated information, please contact us.
Corrections policy
If we publish incorrect information, we correct it as soon as we become aware of the error. Significant corrections (factual errors in caffeine values, safety limits, or medical guidance) are made within 7 days and noted on the page.
To report an error, use the "Report an error" link on any drink or guide page, or visit our contact page. We acknowledge all error reports within 3 business days.
